Kwidzyn Castle

Muzeum w KwidzynieThe museum is housed in the gothic castle of the Pomesanian Chapter built between 1300 and 1330. This first category monument became a museum following a repair and reconstruction project in 1950.

The giant red-brick structure soars majestically on the edge of the Vistula lowland dominating the city landscape. Preserved are the northern and western wings and three corner towers. The characteristic feature of the castle is two projecting cloisters each supported at the end by a huge tower: one the socalled dansker (sanitary tower) and the other a waterwell tower. The courtyard features an interesting twotier arcade cloister. Good acoustic properties of the courtyard make it an excellent venue for concerts and other cultural events.
